Katie Griffin, a 2006 graduate of DACC’s Equine Science program and Canal Winchester High School, has built an extraordinary career in the equestrian world. Today, Katie is a dedicated coach for multiple equestrian teams, including the Kenyon College Hunt Seat IHSA team and the West Licking District Equestrian Team, which supports students from grades 4-12 in Hunt Seat and Dressage. In addition, she manages her own lesson program and balances her professional pursuits with being a proud mom of two.
Katie credits DACC’s Equine Science program for helping her excel in veterinary care and teaching her critical skills in breaking and training baby horses to cart. “I went into the program having my own horses and dreaming of becoming a professional someday. DACC gave me the foundation to make that dream a reality,” she shares. Remarkably, she still uses the resume she built at DACC, continuously adding to it as her career evolves.
Her advice to current and future DACC students is clear: “Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Knock on doors and send emails to people you wouldn’t think would hire you. You might just surprise yourself.”
Katie Griffin’s story is a testament to the doors that DACC’s career and technical education programs can open. Her impressive career, from working with Olympians to coaching the next generation of equestrians, showcases the lasting impact of the skills and experiences gained at DACC.
