Sophie Sutton, a 2020 graduate of DACC’s Columbus Zoo and Aquarium School and Olentangy High School, is on the fast track to achieving her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian. Sophie recently graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences and Industry and is set to begin her studies at KSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine this fall as part of their DVM Class of 2027.
Reflecting on her journey, Sophie credits DACC’s Zoo School program for laying the groundwork for her success. “Zoo School was instrumental in helping me get where I am today,” she says. The hands-on experiences and knowledge she gained as a DACC student left a lasting impression on the admissions team at KSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine, earning her a spot in their prestigious Early Admission Program. Additionally, the research skills she developed at DACC prepared her to excel in university-level research and coursework.
Now on the brink of fulfilling her dream, Sophie reflects on her time at DACC with gratitude: “The experiences I had in high school set me apart and prepared me for the challenges I’ve faced so far. I feel ready and excited to take the next step.”
Sophie’s advice to current and future DACC students is simple yet meaningful: “Enjoy your high school experiences! Everything moves so quickly in college, so it’s important to appreciate the time you have right now.”
Sophie Sutton’s story highlights the transformative power of DACC’s career and technical education programs. Her achievements demonstrate how early hands-on experiences and research opportunities can pave the way for success in higher education and beyond.
