Student Spotlight

Senior Mattie Patch in the DACC’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program is spending her final high school year as both a student and a teacher. Upon entering the DACC this fall, Patch earned a job at Lewis Center’s Kiddie Academy as a kindergarten teacher.

From working with ECE teacher Mrs. Fuller to researching on her own, Patch found a hands-on opportunity to work with students, develop curriculum, and strengthen her own personal skills.

“I experienced real life situations that textbooks just can’t teach you. Being in a classroom, you learn about compassion and patience,” said Patch, adding that the experience encouraged her to venture into teaching different grade levels in the future. “My favorite part has been spending time with the kids; I love working with them and I’m grateful for all its taught me.”
