DACC Staff Spotlight: Cale Richey, Engineering Technology Instructor, Olentangy Academy
Cale Richey is in his second year with DACC teaching at Olentangy STEM Academy. Before teaching, he spent 8 years in mechanical engineering working for a small company designing automated machinery as well as learning basic machining and welding.
Last year, Mr. Richey’s sophomore class completed a hydraulic robot arm project. “It was my first attempt a big project with the kids, and a lot of things didn’t go well along the way. In the end, it turned out great, and the kids loved it. I love being able to bring my industry experience into the classroom. With virtually everything I teach, I can share some kind of personal, real-world story or experience with my students.”
When not teaching, Cale loves fishing and working on old cars and tractors. He also enjoys aviation and plays a little bit of banjo. His family is involved in their church and help with children’s/youth activities. Cale and his wife have been married for 11 years and have two daughters, ages 2 and 5, and two cats.
