We are proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Outstanding Business and Education Partnership Awards: Zelo Media and Environmental Management, Inc. (EMI). These two incredible business partners have gone above and beyond in their dedication to empowering, preparing, inspiring, and connecting our students to future opportunities. Their contributions have been instrumental in ensuring that DACC students are equipped with the skills, confidence, and real-world experience they need to succeed in their chosen fields.
Zelo Media, led by DACC alumnus Zechariah Bowie, has been an extraordinary partner to the Digital Design program. Zechariah brings a unique perspective to his mentorship—as both an industry professional and a former student. Over the past two years, he has committed his time, knowledge, and passion to mentor students in photography and video production, offering hands-on learning through job shadowing and work-based learning opportunities.
Zechariah regularly visits DACC to assist students in building their portfolios and gaining confidence in their craft. His dedication doesn’t stop there; he also participates in community outreach, giving back to younger students by showcasing the excitement of creative industries. Thanks to Zechariah, many students have gained valuable experience that has led to their work being published on professional platforms, helping them stand out as they begin their careers.
When asked about his motivation for volunteering at DACC, Zechariah said, “As an alumnus, I understand the challenges these kids face. I try to provide them with opportunities and resources to help them succeed, whether they pursue the workforce, college, or even entrepreneurship.” His dedication to our students exemplifies the impact that alumni can have on the next generation.
Environmental Management, Inc. (EMI) has been a vital partner to DACC's Landscape Architecture & Construction program for over a decade. Their commitment to our students extends far beyond the classroom. EMI has played an active role in preparing our students for state and national competitions, such as the FFA Nursery & Landscaping Career Development Events and the Landscape Olympics. Their guidance and expertise have helped countless students sharpen their skills and achieve success.
EMI is not only an essential partner in competitions but also offers internships and work-based learning experiences that provide students with practical exposure to the landscaping industry. Many DACC graduates have even secured full-time employment at EMI after their internships. This partnership truly represents the bridge between education and the workforce, helping students seamlessly transition from the classroom to their careers.
In 2023, EMI took their involvement a step further by partnering with Walnut Springs Middle School on a project-based learning initiative. This collaboration brought together middle school students, DACC students, and EMI professionals to transform the school's landscape design, demonstrating the power of hands-on learning and community engagement.
The DACC Outstanding Business and Education Partnership Awards are a way for us to show our gratitude to the businesses that help shape the future of our students. Partnerships like those with Zelo Media and EMI are essential to the success of career and technical education. By providing mentorship, real-world learning opportunities, and ongoing support, these organizations help our students become confident, capable professionals ready to take on the world.
We are incredibly thankful for the dedication and passion shown by Zechariah Bowie of Zelo Media and the entire team at EMI. Their impact on our students' lives cannot be overstated, and we look forward to continuing these strong partnerships for years
