Kendall Shirk, a 2021 graduate of DACC’s Health Technology program and Olentangy High School, is making great strides in the world of healthcare. Currently, Kendall is a Nursing student at the University of South Florida, where she is nearing the end of her second year in a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. With her graduation projected for May 2025, Kendall is also pursuing a minor in Public Health and is an active member of the Honors College, with plans to graduate with honors.
Reflecting on her time at DACC, Kendall shares how the Health Technology program laid a strong foundation for her nursing career. “DACC helped me prepare immensely for nursing school. The skills I learned made me feel ready for lab and clinical work, giving me a head start on the basics,” she says. Kendall has been able to apply everything she learned at DACC to her current classes, which has boosted her confidence. The shadowing and clinical opportunities provided through DACC also gave her valuable insight into the nursing profession, solidifying her choice to pursue a career in nursing.
Kendall’s advice to current DACC students is heartfelt: “Enjoy all the time you have at DACC—it will go by so fast! The experiences and friendships you make will support you throughout your professional career and life. Be sure to thank your teachers; they work extremely hard to ensure your success. And of course, have fun! DACC is an amazing opportunity and learning atmosphere.”
Kendall Shirk’s journey is a shining example of how DACC equips students with the skills, confidence, and direction they need to succeed in their chosen careers. We look forward to seeing her continued success as she moves closer to becoming a nurse.
