At the September 21st DACC Board of Education meeting, the Board welcomed Ms. Brennan, Ms. Ashby, and Ms. Lyme, along with student, Brayden from DACC’s Hospitality and Food Service program. They presented the outstanding work our Hospitality and Food Service students do at local businesses. Because of this work, Brayden and his classmates were recently awarded Volunteers of the Year Award by Capris Gardens and Foundations Health Solutions.
According to Brayden, the work he does helps him with real-world skills such as time management. Ms. Brennan added that the work is not specially created for these students – they are learning to work alongside the existing staff. The students earn the same certifications that are required for other staff who handle food and cleaning supplies.
Brayden also shared that his favorite job is handing out chronicles (or outdated newspapers as Brayden likes to call them) to residents so he can read them along with the residents.
The DACC Hospitality and Food Service program is a transition program for students up to age 21. Learn more about the Hospitality and Food Service Program here.
