Accentuating Alumni - Victoria Alvey

Victoria Alvey attended Delaware Hayes High School and graduated from DACC’s Health Technology program in 2019. Today, she is working as a registered nurse in the Stroke Unit at Riverside Methodist Hospital. On the floor, she is precepting new nurses, and is in charge of their Skin Champions! She recently got married, and is working on getting her Bachelor of Science in Nursing! She loves her career and the unit she works on. She enjoys physically seeing how she helps patients and family members on the floor, and it helps remind her of the “why” of becoming a nurse during the more challenging days.

“Between skills, certifications, and patient experience. In college, other students were having trouble with skills that I had already perfected due to DACC and the practice we got through our STNA program, as well as watching students study for certifications or looking for more to add to their resumes. At the same time, I had already obtained almost everything I needed to help get me through college and help my resume stand out to schools and employers.”

For current and future DACC students, Victoria has this advice to share, “Find what’s in your heart and run with it. I knew from the beginning of high school I wanted to be a nurse, so I did everything I could while at DACC to help my progress to get there so after high school, I took the nursing courses I needed, passed my NCLEX and started my dream job and my dream hospital on my dream floor, and it all started back at DACC. If you know what you want to do, take advantage of the courses offered; you won’t regret it.”
