WHAT IS THE DACC STUDENT EXPLORATION DAY?  The day is a one day meaningful job shadowing experience that provides you with the opportunity to observe and network with professionals, investigate a career field, clarify career goals and interests, and function within a work environment. The Student Exploration Day will take place for all DACC students on Wednesday, March 4, 2020. 
 
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?   “Student Exploration Day” is a day that gives you the opportunity to: 
  • Explore the career field of your choice
  • Observe a “real-world” work environment 
  • Build mentoring relationships with professionals and develop a professional network (these will be great resources as you continue on your career pathway at DACC and beyond).
  • Get a “head start” in marketing yourself for internship and future job opportunities
  • Clarifies career goals, confirms career decisions and helps you to understand what you learn in the classroom leads to success in the workplace.
  • Offers a view into all aspects involved in a job. Students can observe not only job characteristics and responsibilities, but also what each profession requires on a day-to-day basis. 
 
WHO WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE STUDENT EXPLORATION DAY? All students who are currently enrolled at the Delaware Area Career Center will participate.  
 
DOES THE STUDENT EXPLORATION DAY PROVIDE COMPENSATION? No.  Students are responsible for his or her lunch and transportation.  
 
WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO PREPARE FOR THE STUDENT EXPLORATION DAY?
  • Find a place of business or industry to visit for the day (talk with instructor, research employers online, network with other adults, etc.).   • Fill out the “Student Exploration Day” form included with this document
  • Read carefully and return signed and completed form to your CTE instructor by February 28, 2020.
  • If you are a half-day student – notify your instructors at your home school, get their signature on attached permission slip. Show them this document if they have any questions about the activity. 
  • Confirm that you have and understand all materials needed to complete your day and follow-up presentation (assignments from instructor).
  • Consider taking a resume to give to your site sponsor. Make sure all your contact information is current.
  • Take a notepad/writing instrument or digital device on which to record notes about your day, and to share with others. 
 
ONCE I’VE COMPLETED MY EXPLORATION DAY, IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO DO?  
  • You may be required to send a “thank you” e-mail/message to your Student Exploration Day host/sponsor 
  • Reflect on and share your experiences with others (peers/teachers)
  • Complete any and all relevant assignments given by your CTE/Academic instructors.
