ECE Students Are Preparing for Local FCCLA Competition

March 1, 2012

Good luck to our Early Childhood Education students who will be competing in this weekend’s local Family, Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) competition. In order to qualify to compete, these students competed against others in their class and the top projects were chosen to move on to compete against other local schools.

Each student was required to create four activities that fall within the learning content standards that they have been studying and adapt the activities for students with special needs. These students spend a great deal of time not only creating the activities, but also working with the students at DACC’s preschool to perfect the activities.

At the competition, the students will give a presentation to a panel of judges and explain how their activities will benefit a child in their learning process.

Competing tomorrow will be:

Ashley & her ocean-themed FCCLA project
Ashley Randolph

Twylia & her slug-themed FCCLA project
Twylia Cook

Yerry & her ant-themed FCCLA project
Yerry Kitchen

Tiffany & her Dr. Seuss-themed FCCLA project
Tiffany Penhorwood

Rebekah & her penguin-themed FCCLA project
Rebekah Walker

Tiffany and Rebekah will also compete in a team activity in which they will be given twenty minutes to plan ten educational activities that fall within certain guidelines. They will also have to give a ten minute presentation on the activities they create and problem solve on-the-spot to scenarios provided by the judges.

Good luck ladies!
