Outstanding Business & Education Partnership Award 2019

October 10, 2019

Each year it is a privilege to celebrate the collaboration between Delaware Area Career Center and our business and industry partners.  As we look around this room, the partnerships that are represented here tonight impact student learning and ultimately lead to stronger workforce development. As a way to showcase these collaborations, we are pleased to announce our  Outstanding Business and Education Partnership Award winners.  These are advisory members who have been committed to DACC on various levels and have made a significant impact at DACC.

AVI Food Systems- Jim Pearce
The DACC Food Service program is starting the 4th year of partnership with the Food Service operations at Ohio Wesleyan University.  In 2018, AVI obtained the Food Service contract and began working with Nikki Adkins and her Food Service students. This partnership has impacted 100% of our DACC Food Service students by allowing them the opportunity to take part in work-based learning experiences in the kitchen and dining area at Ohio Wesleyan each week.  Students are able to work alongside AVI staff and gain real-world experiences and training.

Several alumni students from the DACC Food Service program are now employed through AVI.  The food service students have shown growth in confidence and skill due to the partnership we share with AVI.  The time that they spend on the job has been extremely valuable when learning job skills and professionalism.

The DACC collaboration with AVI is at the heart of our mission in career tech education.  Students are gaining skills, work-based learning experiences, and employment opportunities as a result of this strong partnership.  Delaware Area Career Center is proud to honor Jim Pearce and the staff at AVI Food Systems.

Riverview Dental - Dr. Craig Slack
Dr. Craig Slack and his team at Riverview Dental have been collaborating with Kamal Vilkhu and the DACC Dental Assisting program for the past 13 years.  Their support has included curriculum development, assisting with recruitment events, judging senior projects, and hosting numerous job shadowing students and interns each year.   Riverview Dental has also employed several DACC alumni students as fulltime employees.
Dr. Slack has also been a valuable asset to the DACC Public Relations Department by participating in a parent specific video in 2011 as well as a photo shoot in his dental practice.

In recent months, Riverview Dental also hosted DACC Dental Assisting instructor, Kamal Vilkhu, for a teacher externship where she was able to gain more knowledge of front office operations and develop curriculum to use in her classroom.

The Delaware Area Career Center is honored to have Dr. Slack and Riverview Dental as a business partner whose outreach has truly impacted the DACC Dental Assisting program.
